The Best Electric Skillet
In this post I want to share some of my recommendations when it comes to the best electric skillet as well as get into some helpful information on skills themselves and why they’re a great addition to any kitchen.
Presto 06857 16-inch Electric Foldaway Skillet
- 16-inch pan
- Great storage capability
- Heat control dial (up to 400F)
- Non-stick cooking surface
- Dishwasher safe skillet pan
The Presto 06857 16-inch Electric Foldaway Skillet is one of my first recommendations when it comes to the best electric skillet.
I find it to be quite reasonably priced and the 16 inch size is perfect for all of my cooking needs.
The base is made from a heavy cast aluminum and features a nonstick surface so it’s sturdy and also easy to clean any splashes or mess off of.
As for the skillet pan it’s also non-stick and is dishwasher-safe, which also makes it easy to keep clean.
At the corner of the skillet pan is a built-in spout and this is great for pouring liquids out of the pan and it also helps to keep spoons or spatulas in place whether you’re using them for cooking or serving.
When it comes to storage it’s possible to remove the skillet pan from its base and with the handles of the base folded in it can actually be stored in the skillet pan so that it’s compact, streamlined, and suitable for storage.
The side walls are quite high and with the 16 inch base it’s possible to prepare roasts, shoes, eggs, and a wide range of one dish meals for your family.
Finally, a specific temperature can be used (up to 400F) and controlled by a heat control knob dial that will maintain your preferred cooking temperature automatically.
Overall, I personally consider this to be the best electric skillet and I find it easy to clean, easy to use, portable, and simple to store away so I would definitely recommend checking it out.
Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet
- Temperature control dial up to 400F
- Glass cover to see how the cooking process is going
- Non-stick skillet pan and exterior
- Dishwasher safe with heat control taken off
The Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet comes equipped with a nonstick surface, both with the skillet pan on the exterior so it’s easy to clean and helps to prevent anything sticking too much.
Not only is it non-stick but it’s also dishwasher safe once the heat control has been removed so this makes cleaning even easier as you can just pop it into the dishwasher and have it cleaned until it’s ready to be used again.
As for controlling the temperature comma there is a heat control knob that allows for a cooking temperature of up to 400F.
With the versatility and high temperature of this model it’s possible to make a wide range of different foods including lasagna, stew, bakes, and you can even do some frying with it for stir-fries and other frying-based meals.
This is a 16 inch skillet so there is a decent amount of cooking space and it can be used either for serving your family or for cooking or heating up larger amounts of food for entertaining or parties.
The only drawback is that the handles don’t fold in for storage and it will require a little bit more storage space to put this away compared to the previous model that I just recommended.
Cuisinart CSK-150 Electric Skillet
The Cuisinart CSK-150 Electric Skillet is an oval skillet that comes equipped with a 12-inch by 15-inch cooking surface.
It’s possible to heat it up to 450F and there’s even an indicator light that lets you know once it has reached the desired temperature.
For changing the temperature there is a control dial and it’s possible to remove this dial and place the skillet into the dishwasher for cleaning.
As for cleaning, the cooking surface is non-stick and this helps to prevent anything that you’re cooking to stick to it and the actual housing is made from a brushed stainless steel so it looks like contemporary and modern.
For added stability there are non-slip pads on the bottom of the legs and this helps to keep the skillet sturdy and in place while the contents are being stirred or moved around.
With the side handles it’s a lot easier to move the skillet around and there’s even a glass cover to help keep heat in while offering a view of whatever is being cooked.
Overall, I find this to be quite a durable yet no frills skillet that’s well suited for regular kitchen use.
A Guide to Electric Skillets
What’s an Electric Skillet?
In case you’re unaware an electric skillet is basically or combination of the main features of your stove and the range.
There is usually a coil heating element that’s located under the main cooking surface area of the pan, which provides heat, and it’s possible to control the temperature so that you can change the intensity of the heat as well as its duration.
The skillets usually have a deep cooking area so that the ingredients you’re using are well contained and so that the heat is able to even the apply to all of the food while it’s being cooked.
Since it’s electric it plugs into any outlet that you have in the kitchen or any other cooking space and it’s meant to be used on the countertop so you’re able to use it wherever you have the room and whenever you feel like it.
The Advantage of Using an Electric Skillet
Electric skillets are very versatile when it comes to cooking capabilities and portability.
They’re also quite and can be stored away when they’re not being used rather than just sitting out and taking up practical space.
Not only that but they can be quickly washed and the heat up quite quickly as well so they’re convenient to use when you don’t feel like using the range on your oven and having to screw around with a dedicated pan.
Depending on the size you get you’ll be able to take advantage of a decent amount of cooking space and it’s possible to use an electric skillet for cooking entire meals.
With the skillet you’re not using as much power and this helps to keep monthly bills down as well while allowing you to make enough food at a time to enjoy leftovers.
Finally, since it’s very portable you can cook at home or anywhere else where you’re able to plug it in.
This means you can bring an electric skillet with you camping or even to a friend’s house or family home so that you can prepare a meal with something you’re familiar with.
There are quite a few advantages to using an electric skillet and once you start using it you’ll find plenty of ways that it makes for an ideal cooking opportunity.
The Different Types of Skillets
When it comes to choosing the right skillet you’ll soon realize that there are a few different types available to choose from.
Most notably is that the overall shape of them varies quite a bit so you’ll find square ones, rectangular ones, and even oval ones.
The size of the different options available also differ so there’s quite a range when it comes to the size and cooking surface of the different skillets available.
Today most of the different options come with a nonstick surface and most often you’ll find ones that use Teflon or ceramic.
There are also different heat settings to choose from with some models offering just low, medium, or high heat settings and there’s even ones available that you can choose the specific cooking temperature that you want.
Make sure to take a look at all of the different features and see which of the models all for the best range of options for your personal cooking needs.
Features to Look For
When you’re looking to pick up a new electric skillet there are a few different things you’ll want to keep an eye out for.
How versatile and convenient the one you’re looking at is is based on its overall size, temperature range, cooking surface size, and shape.
Other factors that play a role in choosing the right model include how easily it can be stored, whether or not it’s easy to clean up, and how stable it is on the counter.
One of the first things to look at is the size of the skillet that you’re interested in.
This depends on how many people you’re cooking for and it’s a good idea to make sure that you’re able to stir the ingredients in a way where they’re not going to be slopping up the sides or falling out when you stir.
Skillets that are longer and deeper are easier to prepare meals in and try to look for bigger models if you’re going to be preparing things for three or more people.
In my opinion bigger is always better in this case and I find it much easier to control the ingredients during the cooking process with a bigger and deeper skillet.
These days there was a lot of appliances on the countertop and competing for space so it’s a good idea to look for a skillet that can be stored away when not being used.
Keep an eye out for the different models that offer any easier storing features such as being able to put the plug away or nest the lid in the actual skillet.
For the type of surface I would actually recommend going with something non stick since they’re easier to clean and you don’t have to worry about anything sticking to the surface while you’re trying to cook.
There are two main types of non-stick surfaces available to choose from – Teflon and ceramic.
Also, having one that’s dishwasher-safe is also great since you can just pop it into the dishwasher so that it’s clean and ready to use the next time you want to use it without having to worry about soaking it and then scrubbing it by hand.
The majority of skillets will come equipped with a low setting that can be used to keep your food warm and ready to eat when it’s time to serve but the higher range of what you can achieve when it comes to the temperature will vary depending on the model.
Should you be interested in doing any flash frying or stir-frying or you just want the option to use high heat then keep an eye out for models that allow you to take advantage of high temperatures.
One final feature that I want to mention is the overall stability of the skillet.
I recommend skillets that come with 4 legs and possibly keeping an eye out for once that take advantage of a non-skid or non-slip surface.
The reason why this is recommended is because you don’t want to worry about anything spilling or tipping over while you’re cooking and making a mess or even possibly injuring you.
