For those that don’t have enough room for a barbecue or just want to cook indoors during the colder autumn or winter months then a contact grill is a useful kitchen appliance to consider.
These grills can be used throughout the year and they make it possible to grill food quite well regardless of the outdoor weather elements and whether or not you have your own dedicated barbecue.
Another reason to consider using a contact grill is that grilling food is quite a healthy alternative compared to frying and it’s not as messy nor does it require as many utensils, plates, and other dishes.
I recently started looking for one to use in my kitchen and so began my hunt for the best contact grill.
With so many different options available to choose from I thought I would share some of the top grills that I came across as well as make some recommendations on what I believe are some of the best indoor grills.

Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler
It was the Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler that I kept coming across when I was looking for a contact grill that I could use on my countertop in the kitchen.
As the name suggests, this is actually a 5-in-1 Nifty little device that not only works as a contact grill but can also be used as a panini press, full griddle, full grill, or half grill/griddle.
This way I’m not only limited to use it for grilling steaks and other meats or veggies but I can also take advantage of using it for a variety of different food items depending on what I prefer that night.
The way it works is by taking advantage of a reversible Grill plate that can be turned to the other side and used as a flat-top griddle.
It’s also possible to use both the grill top and the griddle at the same time for some versatility when it comes to what’s able to be prepared.
Not only that but the grill can also be used in a closed position as a contact grill for cooking burgers, chicken, steak, and other meats that benefit from pressure and heat from both sides.
It boasts a simple yet elegant and contemporary brushed stainless steel design and looks quite nice rather than being an eyesore on the countertop.
As for use, it comes with simple controls on the front of the grill that allow for the temperature to be adjusted and indicator lights display when the cooking surface has reached the temperature that you prefer.
When it comes to cleaning it’s quite straightforward with the grilling plates being removable and dishwasher safe along with nonstick to help prevent any of the cooking ingredients from sticking to the surface.
Overall, the Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler ss one of the top options that I discovered during my search for the best contact grill and if you’re looking for one to use in your kitchen for grilling throughout the year this is the one that I would recommend checking out.
T-fal GC702 OptiGrill Stainless Steel Indoor Electric Grill
The T-fal GC702 Grill is another model that I’m impressed with and would recommend checking out.
Depending on your preferences and how many people you’re planning on cooking for there are two different sizes to choose from, one that’s well suited for 4-servings at a time and the other that’s better to use if you’re serving more people up to 8-servings at a time.
One of my favorite features with this grill is that it comes equipped with 6 different automatic cooking programs.
A specific program can be used depending on what it is you’re looking at the time and for example there’s a setting for burgers, poultry, red meat, and even sandwiches among the 6 different programs.
Another interesting feature is that the grill automatically adjusts to the ideal temperature depending on the size and thickness of whatever is being cooked depending on the specific program that’s chosen.
Not only does it come packed with features but it’s also easy to clean thanks to the nonstick plates that are easy to remove and dishwasher friendly so cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore or deter you from using this grill.
For use there is a series of buttons along the handle or you can choose the specific cooking mode that you want or you can opt for a manual cooking mode and choose your preferred done-ness of whatever you’re grilling.
I find the T-fal GC702 to be a nifty little grill and if you’re looking to take advantage of its unique features and ease-of-use I would definitely recommend checking it out.

For easy cleanup the grill plates can be removed and placed in the dishwasher and thanks to a sloped design of the plates all of the unwanted grease and fats will drip off into a drip tray which you can then dispose of.
With the adjustable change your able to take advantage of a 1-inch of space of adjustment so that it’s possible to use the grill for a variety of different vegetables and cuts of meat depending on their sizes.

De’Longhi CGH800 Contact Grill
The De’Longhi CGH800 Contact Grill meats, veggies and other grillable ingredients in the comfort of your own kitchen without having to rely on a dedicated barbecue or worry about the weather elements.
It boasts a modern stainless steel design and thanks to the double sided contact cooking plates it’s possible to take advantage of quick and even grilling.
With the height adjustable hinge you can grill food of varying size and thickness so you’re able to use this for steaks, fish, shish kabobs, or even as a panini press for sandwiches.
When it comes to the temperature it’s possible to adjust it using the adjustable thermostat on the front of the grill and this allows you to choose a precise and specific temperature depending on what it is you’re preparing.
The cooking surfaces tilted so that all of the grease and oil drain away into a separate cup so that you don’t have to worry about them cooking into your food or ending up on the plate while you’re eating the meal.
For easy cleaning grill plates are non-stick so they can be cleaned without having to worry about so much stuff sticking to it and the drain cup just needs to be wiped off and rinsed out to be ready to use again.
The non-stick grill plates also means that you don’t have to use any oil or grease during the cooking process, simply add whatever you’re grilling after its preheated and watch as any of the excess grease and oil drain off.

George Foreman GRP472P Grill
The George Foreman GRP472P Grill can be used as both a grill and panini press.
It comes equipped with removable grill plates that make it a lot easier to clean since I can just be tossed into the dishwasher after they’ve been used and they’ll be ready for the next time you feel like grilling.
The plates also take advantage of a ceramic coating that keeps them non-stick and this prevents any of the meat or vegetables that you’re grilling from sticking to the plates and causing a mess.
Like many of the other George Foreman grills this one was designed with a sloped grilling surface which helps to allow any of the excess fats from grilled meats to drop off into a collection tray so you’re better able to control the amount of fat you’re eating.
To let you know once the grill is ready to use there is a ready indicator light that will indicate when it’s time to start grilling.

Features to Look for in Contact Grills
When it comes to finding the right to contact grill to use in your kitchen there are a few different features that you should consider to see if any of the models you’re interested in are well suited for your cooking needs.
Removable Grilling Plates
One feature I love having is the removable grilling plates.
Being able to remove the plates makes them a lot easier to clean and it’s even better if they can be added to the dishwasher since this makes it even easier overall.
Fixed plates require a little bit more effort and you’ll have to hand wash them after every use rather than just being able to talk them into the dishwasher or let them soak in the sink.
One drawback with using removable plates is that there is some more heat loss than you would find with fixed ones and I think this is due to the overall design and ability of being able to remove the plate where there isn’t as much direct electricity going into the plates compared to when they’re fixed.
Despite this one issue I still prefer using removable plates because being able to clean them easily means all use my contact grill a lot more than if I had to use all this elbow grease every time just to clean the grill.
Sloping Grill Surface
Another feature I like to have is a sloping grill surface and I find that this is great for bigger cuts of meat or fattier foods.
With the outdoor BBQ all of the excess fats and grease drip down into the heat but when you’re frying you end up frying the foods in the fats so they get all absorbed.
With a grill surface that slopes all of the excess fat and grease drips down into a collection tray and it’s possible to just get rid of it without worrying about your food getting cooked in it.
There are plenty of other features to keep an eye out for and I recommend looking to see what any of the special options or features the contact grill that you’re interested in comes with.
It really depends whether you want plenty of different options to choose from or if you just want a simple and no frills grill that you can quickly use without having to worry about how to use it the most effectively.
